Dennis Kucinich, probably the most liberal/progressive candidate for the Democratic Presidential Nomination, visited Tacoma, Olympia, and Aberdeen (in Washington State), on Friday, March 30, and I had the opportunity to see and hear him speak.

Now, let me say out in front that his politics are a bit far to the left for me on several issues, but I did come away very impressed by his demeanor, intelligence, and his sense of humor. The event in Aberdeen, held at the Bishop Performing Arts Center at Grays Harbor College, was free to the public. Between two and three hundred people attended, and, given the volume of applause, and the lack of hecklers or even critical questions, (yes, he took unedited questions from the audience!), I assume most in attendance were favorable to his comments and opinions.

He criticized President Bush, as expected, but some of his harshest comments were directed at his fellow Congressional Democrats! He basically accused them of being no better than Republicans when it comes to dealing with the War in Iraq. Kucinich called the debate on the Iraqi "surge" a fake debate, and a waste of time. He informed the audience of a vote in Congress the day before which basically gave President Bush enough money to carry on the war through July, 2009, well past the end of his presidency. The next day, I saw that CNN reported on that same information.

All in all, while I don’t think Kucinich has much chance to overtake Hillary, Obama, or Edwards, if we had a vote on intelligence, honesty, and "normal human beingness," he would get my vote. He speaks his mind, and to heck with whether or not it is politically correct. He does not pander to his audience, like many office-seekers do, and that will cost him a chance to truly win. Issues and politics aside, the American people DO need more candidates at all levels who are as open and forthright as Congressman Kucinich.

Oh, and his British-born wife, Elizabeth, also spoke, talking about the 9/10 Forum, a plan to discuss how people viewed the world before the 9/11 attacks. She is quite striking, a tall redhead who contrasts sharply to her much shorter husband, and it is obvious that she could hold her own in a speaking forum with the other candidates wives (plus Bill, of course).

The African National Congress Womens League(ANCWL) is known for standing bahind women in-general, women who comes out against women abuse, rape, and other women injustices get their amnesty in full “Wa thindi bafazi wa thindi MBOKODO”.

But not Khwezi – the HIV+ woman who was raped by President Zuma, or the four #Remeber Khwezi girls who showed up on Saturday during Zuma speech. The ANC Womens League President came out to criticize the four girls against the Saturday silent protest saying the timing was wrong. The four unknown girls caring the placards written #Remember Khwezi invaded the stage as President Jacob Zuma’s was givin the most important speech to the nation on saturday during the IEC 2016 Local election official announcement. She says the group of activists, who silently demonstrated during President Jacob Zuma’s address at the national election results centre, were used by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) to embarrass him.

According to the reports the four girls where mistreated, man-handled by the members of the security and were later arrest of charges of security bridge on President Zuma.

The ANCWL has never given even a single word of support nor motivation to the poor four women fighting for the same cause which the Women’s league was found and based under.

But came out strongly against them demanding answer from both the security agencies and the IEC over the President Jacob Zuma security.

Maybe things have changed because so much has happened, now we have Premier League, and many more things happening within the liberation struggle movement, lets just sit back and relax maybe they will help the #Remeber Kwezi four achieve what they are trying to do.

The security cluster together with the EC are investigating the possible security bridge happened on Saturday during the Zuma speech. Minister Mahlobo said the heads will roll on this one…

Friday night at Auburn Memorial Stadium, (also known historically as Troy Field), the Auburn High School Trojans football team faced their cross-town rivals, Auburn Riverside, in their annual showdown. This night in particular though, something a bit different occurred. One of the Auburn High School cheerleaders was run over by the onrushing Auburn Trojan football players as they exited their locker room and ran onto the field. She suffered a bruised jaw. The incident was caught on video not only by football fans, but also by a local television station, KIRO News, which had selected this contest as the "Game of the Week." Being that this is the 21st Century, videos of the team running over the cheerleader were shown on television, and posted on the KIRO website, but were also posted on YouTube and other video sites around the world.

As the world now looks at Auburn through the lens of videos posted on YouTube and other internet outlets, it is important to look at Auburn High School historically. The school dates back to 1903, though the current physical school building dates back only to 1950. Significant alumni include:Christine Gregoire--Current Governor of the State of WashingtonBlair Rasmussen--National Basketball Association star for the Denver Nuggets Greg "Mutt" Haugen--Former Boxing Lightweight ChampionLt. Colonel Francis R. (Dick) Scobee--NASA Astronaut and Commander of the Space Shuttle Challenger

Auburn has a rich history, as partly evidenced by the wide range of accomplishments of these four alumni. And the history keeps on rolling, with recent graduates in the Texas Rangers baseball organization and on the Stanford University football team. Oh, and by the way: The Auburn Trojans football team won that game with a score of 37 to 6.

John Edwards, former candidate for President in both the 2004 and 2008 election campaigns, has, according to FOX News, been engaging in an affair with a woman named Rielle Hunter, and he was seen running and hiding from reporters in the Beverly Hills Hilton recently. Hunter was supposedly a guest in the hotel that night. FOX News quoted a hotel security guard, who said that he found the former presidential candidate trapped in a men’s room, with reporters outside shouting questions at Edwards about his relationship with Rielle Hunter. Rumors of an Edwards affair with Hunter have surfaced before, but this, if confirmed, would be more than a rumor. Video is said to exist of Hunter entering a hotel room, and then of Edwards leaving the same room later. John Edwards is married, and his wife, Elizabeth is battling an incurable form of cancer. Edwards suspended his presidential campaign in January, after defeats in the early primaries and caucuses. He has endorsed Barack Obama, and has been mentioned as a possible vice-presidential candidate, a role he played in the 2004 election. Any talk of Edwards running on a national ticket as the veep again, is now sure to end whether this hotel tyst story turns out to be true or not.Guard Confirms Late-Night Hotel Encounter Between Ex-Sen.

ANC STATEMENT ON THE OCCASION OF NATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY The African National Congress (ANC) congratulates all the women of South Africa on the occasion of National Women’s Day. This day is a time for both reflection on and celebration of the gains made by women in our young democracy.

This day also marks the 60th anniversary of the historic Women’s March to the Union Buildings by more than 20 000 women to protest against the pass laws of the apartheid government. The occasion has been marked by the unveiling of statues in the city of Tshwane of the leaders of the march, as well as an address by President Jacob Zuma. Thousands of women have converged on the laws of the Union Buildings to recreate the march, many of them travelling long distances from other parts of the country. It was the dedication and tenacity of these women pioneers that forged the way for South Africa to become a society founded on the principles of equality and non-sexism. It was because of these brave women that today South African women occupy a multiplicity of roles: not just as wives and mothers, but as teachers, entrepreneurs, businesswomen, politicians, community workers, activists, church leaders and active members of society. The women who marched on the Union Buildings in 1956 knew, that in the words of VI Lenin: that “ “the emancipation of women and their equality with men is impossible and remains so as long as women are excluded from social production and restricted to domestic labour.” Today we can say proudly that thanks to the policies of the African National Congress (ANC) South Africa is a country where gender equality and gender representation is a fundamental tenet of governance. In August, Women’s Month, we celebrate the selflessness, resilience and heroism of the women who played a pivotal role in the liberation of our country. South African women today, especially our young women, have taken up the baton from the pioneers of the Women’s March. They are evidence that women of this country will continue to take a stand against any forms of oppression on the basis of gender. The ANC government has, since the dawn of democracy in 1994, made tremendous progress in ensuring women are able to take up their rightful place in the leadership of our country. We now live in a society that respects the enduring principles of freedom, equality, justice, human dignity and equal opportunities for all. Before 1994, only 2.7% of those in Parliament were women. This has changed considerably. Today 44% of our Parliament consists of women, and women make up 43% of Cabinet. Through our National Gender Machinery we have mainstreamed women’s issues throughout government planning to ensure that every single policy, decision or programme that is rolled out takes the needs, considerations and circumstances of women into account. The ANC government continues to work towards equity for women in all sectors of our economy, and is encouraged by efforts especially in state-owned enterprises. The ANC government continues to prioritize facilitating access to educational opportunities and support for young women, in our schooling system. It is the ANC government that is enabling young women to learn and take up opportunities for a better future. Women’s Month is also a time for reflection. We know that the mainstreaming of gender is imperative because it is women who are still the poorest in our country, and black rural women in particular. It is women who face triple oppression on the basis of race, class and gender. It is to women that we must direct the lion’s share of our efforts if we are to eradicate the social ills we still face as a country of poverty, discrimination, and disease.

The ANC, and the ANC Women’s’ League (ANCWL) in particular is making a huge contribution through the many struggles and victories we have attained. The lives of hundreds of thousands of women across the country have been transformed for the better.

Democratic Alliance leader, Mmusi Maimane says the African National Cogress(ANC) has taken South Africans for granted

Speaking at a DA event in Sharpville, held in commemoration of 69 residents who were gunned down by apartheid police in 1960, Maimane said the ANC’s agenda was to protect Zuma, not the country. “When the president can stand and say the ANC is above South Africa, we must know our freedom can no longer be taken for granted,” said Maimane.

Addressing around 200 DA leaders in the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Sharpville, Maimane said they had tried to question why the ruling party continued to be in defence of President Jacob Zuma instead of the nation. “When you ask them why you are protecting Zuma, they say Maimane you must get out Parliament,” said Maimane.

It was a tragedy that a party that had fought for human rights had since become about one person. “A movement led by Mandela has been reduced to protect one person,” said Maimane, adding that this had led to the protection of Sudan’s Al-Bashir who was wanted in connection with war crimes as well as the Gupta family.

The Gupta family which owns The New Age newspaper and news station ANN7 is said to have strong ties with Zuma and other members of government.

Last week, several government officials claimed that the Gupta family had offered them ministerial jobs in exchange for favours.

Maimane said this was the time for the country to implement change in governance.

• Breaking NewsANC NEC get underway, ‘Guptas’ on the agendaANCBy Staff Reporter The ANC’s National Executive Committee is set to get underway in Pretoria on Friday, which could be seen to be a turning point for the ruling party.

It’s been a turbulent time for the ANC as allegations that the politically connected Gupta family, said to be close to President Jacob Zuma, were making Cabinet jobs offers to party members.

This week Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas and former ANC MP Vytjie Mentor claimed that the Guptas offered them Cabinet positions. Both said they declined the offer. The Guptas have denied both allegations.

The NEC is expected to discuss this issue and receive a report back from the ANC’s top six following a meeting with the Gupta family.

Following Jonas’s revelations, the ANC said the appointment of ministers was the president’s prerogative and was not decided by any individuals or families because of their “bank balance”. “The confirmation that the Gupta family… unelected as they are, they offer people ministerial positions including replacements… is an issue of serious concern because it erodes the authority and credibility of the authority of the president, that of government and the leadership of the African National Congress,” spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said at the time. “The ANC must act decisively to send a very unambiguous and clear message that it won’t allow its government including leadership of the ANC to be influenced by any individual regardless of their balance sheet.”

There has been speculation regarding whether Zuma could find himself facing a recall.

However, on Thursday, ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe said no one had asked for the recall of the president to be put on the agenda for the meeting. Several ANC sources have told News24 that they are still standing firm behind the the president.

The party was expected to would show a united front for Zuma, with some saying he would emerge even stronger from the NEC meeting.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) is likely to scoop the four major metros that almost every party was vying for during the Local Government Elections.

DA’s Jamie Selfe confirmed that the Party was leading in the Johannesburg metro, Tshwane Metro, Nelson Mandela Bay and Ekurhuleni. Results released early this morning from the IEC Results Operating Centre show great electoral outcomes for the DA. Hotly contested NMB Metro is likely to be led the DA as they 56 percent votes, while the African National Congress (ANC) has 35 percent.

In Tshwane the DA has 48 percent votes while the ANC stands at 40. In Ekurhuleni the DA stands with 44 percent of vote and the ANC has 42 percent. In Johannesburg the DA is leading at 45 percent while the ANC is slowing climbing up at 40.

Traditionally, the counts from townships and poorer areas come in later, and those are areas more likely to favour the ANC over the DA.

In National results the ANC is leading with 55 percent and the DA follows with 34 percent, while the Economic Freedom Fighters are slowly struggling with 5 percent.

Selfe said growth in support for the DA across South Africa as early results come into the Centre, bode well for the DA’s electoral outcomes. “In a stamp of approval for the DA’s governance record, voters in Cape Town have re-elected the DA with a resounding majority, which we can project to be our strongest result in Cape Town ever. Voters have endorsed the DA record of good governance in Cape Town in their numbers,”

He added they have also managed to be re-elected by the Midvaal, he added the win is a clear recognition of the DA’s successes in governing the Municipality. “We can also now confirm that the Kouga Municipality in the Eastern Cape and the Cape Agulhas Municipality in the Western Cape is projected to be an outright majority for the DA, and we look forward to bringing the DA difference to Kouga and Cape Agulhas,” said Selfe.

“In the Western Cape results so far show that voters have come out to re-elect the DA with outright majorities in Bergrivier, Langeberg, and Overstrand returning the DA to govern,” said Selfe.

According to the current data only 59.29% of the people registered to vote for this year’s Municipal Elections showed up.

The Independent Electoral Commission(IEC) thanked the millions of voters who braved the cold, windy weather to make their mark and have their say in the 2016 Municipal Elections.

Current data shows that over 59.29% of the voters turned out to vote in what has been labelled the most contested elections since the dawn of democracy. “The Electoral Commission is proud that once again South Africans have voted peacefully, patiently and passionately,” the IEC CEO Mosotho Moepya said.

The commission was also grateful for the dedication of nearly 200 000 election officials who worked from very early yesterday morning to very early this morning in many cases to complete the voting and counting process as well as party agents and observers who oversee the process to ensure its integrity.

With regards to incidents, Moepya said they have noted the reports of a disruption at the Johannesburg results centre early today.

Tempers frayed as the capture of results was delayed in the area. “The Electoral Commission deployed the Vice Chairperson and the Provincial Electoral Officer to the centre and the situation was quickly resolved,” said Moepya, adding that the commission was not aware of any results slips which have gone missing in Johannesburg

Vacuuming your carpet should not be like a an Olympic body building event. It should be a quick and easy task that allows you the time to get back to having fun or doing more enjoyable things with your time. Lightweight vacuum cleaners are available just about everywhere now, and finding the best one to suit your needs is a simple task, if you know the features you are looking for.
Losing The Extra Weight

As in any good diet, the goal is to lose weight, and quickly. The same should also apply when you’re looking to buy a new cleaning tool for your home. This is your chance to take note of how much the cleaner weighs and take this into consideration when doing your research. Let this be a learning lesson, you don’t have to put up with the weight any longer. It is time to give your old cleaner a proper burial and move on to a skinnier model!

It should not take more than one arm to lift a lightweight model, unless this is your preferred method of exercise. Cleaners weighing less than 10 pounds can be found easily in stores.
Lightweight vs. Standard Upright

Lightweight vacuums are generally smaller versions of the traditional model; sometimes bigger is just not better These lightweight models are equipped with fewer components and, not as many of the bells and whistles. How many times do you actually use all of the accessories that you have on your standard upright…or do you even have a clue what the function of some of them are? Smaller vacuums have great cleaning power and many useful applications.

If you are tight on space, and spring cleaning is just not your thing…these can be tucked nicely into the corner of just about any closet.
You can save your energy for more important activities in life by opting to buy the best lightweight vacuum for carpet, as it doesn’t require much muscle movement to glide these smoothly across your carpets.
With most models out there now, the suction power is comparable, if not better than the bigger version.
You need to clean up small messes, like cat litter or pet hair, and do not want to invest in a handheld version.
The RV or camper…a compact machine is virtually a must here!
Strongly recommended for cleaning stair cases, as you have to carry them up and down the stairs!

The biggest question you will need to ponder upon is if you wish to have the best lightweight canister vacuum, or an upright version. I find that the upright version makes a better dance partner, but you may find that you rather pull your buddy behind you by the hose. Either way, both styles are very compact and easy to use.
What is This Going to Cost?

For most applications, you do not need the Rolls Royce of vacuums and there are many great brands on the market. Sometimes it is a grand thing in life when manufacturers compete, as this drives the prices way down. A reputable cleaner can be purchased for well under $200 so you can stay with your favorite brand or venture outside of the box.

As with any good solid relationship in life, you need to find compatibility; why not find the same with your cleaning tool of choice. After all, you and this machine will be spending many years together, so why not strive to find a cleaner that best suits your needs?

How to Buy Lightweight Upright Vacuum Cleaners:

Fri 28 October 2016 | -- (permalink)

With the wide array of handheld vacuums in the market, picking the best handheld vacuum that’s right for you can quite a daunting task if not an impossible one. To add salt to injury, most of these renown brands encompass their products with tons and tons of features, some gimmicky and in the end leave the ordinary consumers utterly confused on which products to go for.

However, all that hustle can be avoided by narrowing down your search criteria based on your daily needs and preferences. Some of the things to consider are:

Handheld Vacuums For Hardwood Floor

Although hardwood floors have a nice aesthetic view to them and are durable in nature, they are sometimes problematic in that they are dust and pet hair magnets.

Hardwood floors can also easily scratch when hard bristle brushes are used to clean them. It is therefore important to choose one that has a high suction power, uses a soft fiber cloth or brush a with soft bristles to clean and has accessories such as a soft dusting brush and a crevice tool for those stubborn stains.

Handheld Vacuums For Carpet

Carpets can easily fall victims to dust accumulation and it is therefore important that frequent cleaning is performed on them.

Handheld vacuums suitable for dealing with carpet issues usually have high suction strength and come packed with extra accessories such as a a scrubbing brush. Brushes make the particles loose while the strong suction pulls them away.

Handheld Vacuums For Pet Hair

If you have a pet, high chances are that your pet is leaving a long trail of pet hair which is not only ugly but a health hazard too. First, consider getting a corded handheld vacuum that has a strong suction to suck all the pet hair out and posses an upholstery tool to remove the pet hair. Secondly, choose one that has extra accessories such as rubber attachments and easy to remove filters such as HEPA filters for health purposes.

Corded vs. Cordless

The preference by most people for cordless handheld vacuums stems from the fact that they are portable. Its portability and relative ease of use makes it ideal for quick cleaning of areas such as cars and other small areas of the house.

On the other hand, corded hand vacuums are usually considered as the most powerful handheld vacuum machines available, and thus the preferred option when thorough cleaning is required because of their superior suction power. One drawback of the cordless over the corded is that it is battery operated hence limiting hours of use while with the corded, one will use it for unlimited periods of time.

Wet/Dry Functionality

Not all portable vacuum cleaners can handle dry and wet situations all together. Liquids tend to require more suction power and should you go for one that can cleans both the dry and wet materials, then consider one that has the higher power. Also try and consider the one with the most accessories for better cleaning results.

Weight

Cleaning the house should be enjoyable and make you feel like doing it everyday. Having a heavy handheld cleaner will surely negate your cleaning experience. Should you prefer a light weight one, choose one with less features and attached accessories for easy handling and portability.

Suction Power

Suction strength varies from one handheld cleaner to another. Corded ones tend to posses more suction power even when compared against the best cordless handheld vacuum cleaners. Always ensure that you choose one based on the suction power that you need.

Battery life

For a cordless handheld vacuum, the bigger the battery the more the juice the more the battery life. Again focus on the technology used and the battery capacity. Another way of increasing the battery life is having a portable battery.

Recharge time

Batteries recharge at different rates depending on the input charge and the size of the battery. It is also good idea to stick to the duration required to charge the battery until it’s full otherwise you risk degrading it hence affecting the time it takes to fully charge and discharge.

Capacity

This is greatly dependent on the job at hand. People who will use it much more often over a larger space will probably be best positioned to opt for a handheld portable vacuum that has a large capacity. For folks who only need it for light cleaning or touch ups, a lower capacity is just fine.
